A New Vision for the Coming Year
One of the more significant Bible studies I encountered during my college years was one many others here at Valley View went through, Experiencing God. In it there was a phrase that stuck with me at the time, “Get at work where God is already at work around you.” It was a season when I was struggling with what to do next in life. It was a major time of transition from the school years to work/adult years. Big decisions were looming. Would I pursue a career in engineering, go on the mission field, get more involved with campus ministry at UofL, or attend seminary? Any option would require a step of faith, and any could be used to bring God glory, even engineering could open doors to the mission field in closed countries.
That phrase from Experiencing God gave me great direction in making my decision. It was clear to me that God was at work with college students. I had taken a semester break from volunteering with the college ministry, and when I came back, God had been at work growing the ministry without me! He was stirring students, deepening their hunger for prayer and evangelism. Many more were coming each week – it was clear God was at work and I needed to join what He was already doing. It was a big step of faith, one that would require complete dependence on God to provide the donations each month to pay my salary, but it was one that seemed clear at the time.
Walk by Faith
This week we launched our new theme for the year “Walk by Faith” (read more about it here). We believe God is at work at Valley View, calling each of us to walk by faith in the coming year. What step of faith would He have you take this year? What would you long to see Him do in and through you in the next year? Be praying for God to clearly reveal it to you. Be listening for the Holy Spirit to guide you. Walking by faith is how we grow and how we see God do amazing things in and through our church and all over the South End of Louisville!
