First Steps Study – Parents lead child through study
Every Christian parent yearns for the day his child receive Christ as Savior. The implications are enormous and eternity hangs in the balance. Literally, this is the most important decision we can lead our children toward making. As families launch into Milestone 3, our kids’ ministry staff and First Steps team will partner with your family to help develop a foundation in your child’s life for knowing Jesus as their personal Savior. We will provide an opportunity for parents and children to come together for an introduction to our First Steps ministry. Our First Steps team will provide a teaching guide that assists parents as they lead their child to learn what it means to follow Christ. This guide will supplement the basic steps of Faith Talks and God Moments that are essential to teaching your child about faith in Jesus. Parents and kids will have the opportunity to participate in a brief family First Steps orientation on one of the first 3 Sundays in November. Parents and kids will receive a handbook that will outline the core concepts that children need to understand about becoming a Christian. During the following months, parents will guide their child through the teaching material. We will have follow up opportunities for families to meet with our First Steps team at various times from January – May of the following year. In early June we will have a Milestone 3 Celebration for families to celebrate their child’s spiritual journey at whatever stage they are in.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO PARENTS
Salvation is not a box to check. It is the beginning of a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ. Often with good intentions, parents can force their children into a decision the child is not ready to make. Children need to make this decision with a good understanding at the Holy Spirit’s prompting in their life.
WHAT IF MY KIDS DON’T MAKE A DECISION DURING THIS WINDOW OF THEIR LIFE?
If your child doesn’t receive Christ, continue praying and walking the path. Continue investing through Faith Talks, God Moments and Celebrating Milestones. The path doesn’t look the same ‘for every child.
