According to Design
There’s a water filter station in the church office with a cold and hot spigot. For years the hot side did not work; push on it and nothing comes out. That was disappointing because I love a hot cup of tea late in the day in the colder months and filtered water is perfect for that. One day I saw my son coming away from the filter station with a cup of steaming hot water. How is that possible? The filter is broken! Apparently it worked all along. He discovered a small extra lever that had to be moved first before the hot water would come out (to keep it from scalding someone who accidentally bumps into it).
Sunday we looked at what the Bible says about what it means to be human, about how God designed you, and what He had in mind when he created humanity. Of course we know this design has been infected and distorted by sin (a topic we will explore in a few weeks), and that we need Christ to redeem and restore us to God’s design so we can finally discover how life is supposed to work. Like the water filter, the right design has been there all along. We get into God’s Word so we can learn how to experience a restored, and fully functioning, design.
This is why so many made the commitment in the month of March to be in God’s Word and to be in prayer every day. We are following the church Bible plan and praying at least five minutes every day in March. If we collectively grow in our hunger for God’s Word and prayer, God will move in powerful ways in our church!
This weekend our students are gathering for their annual discipleship retreat, called the WKND. Be praying for them as Colby is addressing the very relevant topic of anxiety. If you missed it, you’ll want to watch the luncheon presentation he and others made on the topic. Pray for breakthroughs to happen this weekend!
