Make the Most of the Time
I have very little in common with the special forces branches of the military, except maybe one thing. I’ve heard that they follow a motto to sleep whenever they can, even if it is just a few minutes, because you never know when you will have another opportunity to sleep in their line of work. So make the most of it when you have it. The key word here is OPPORTUNITY.
I apply this idea to reading – sneaking in a page or paragraph here and there – whenever I find an opportunity. The idea of opportunity is relevant for our entire church: when you have an opportunity to do something important, even if it doesn’t seem like much or enough, try to make the most of it. This is true of Bible study and prayer, as a little Bible and prayer is better than no Bible or prayer. It also applies to telling others about the hope we have in Christ. Sometimes we might feel like we can never do enough, so why try. But I think the enemy wants to keep us feeling weighed down and ineffective. But sharing something is better than nothing. A Navy Seal probably never has enough sleep, but some sleep is better than no sleep!
We are coming into a season where our church has an abundance of opportunities to invite people to check out what God is doing here. Easter is April 5th, usually the biggest day of the entire year for guest attendance. Bob Russell comes to speak April 12th, which also is our Spring Picnic and Pie Competition. On April 11th, our men will gather to hear Perris Jones, former college football player, speak about how his faith helped him through an almost fatal injury. Our senior adults gather for Sojourners on March 26th. I’ll be speaking this month and we are expanding into the Fellowship Hall for this event, so we have extra room for visitors.
Why don’t you pray about inviting one person to at least one of these gatherings? You never know how God might use your simple step of faith to bring about change in the life of a friend. 1 Peter 4:7 starts with “The end of all things is at hand…” The reality is, time is short. We won’t always have a chance to invite someone. They may not be around next year or you might not be as well. Make the most of the opportunity to invite someone while you can this spring!
