Rob was the first guy I heard talk with passion about comic books. I liked comic books but he LOVED comic books. This was in middle school, back when comic books and magazine racks were in every gas station and grocery store. Rob was so passionate about collecting comic books that he had learned the day and hour when deliveries were made to each store in his area. I went with him one time to meet the delivery truck at one stop, then watched him carefully, reverently, sift through the stacks to find the copies in the best condition. Watching him and listening to him talk about comic books made me want to know more about them. I wanted that kind of excitement. I wanted to be like Rob.

In Mark 5, Jesus casts demons out of a man. He radically changes and alters this man’s life forever, and then he sends him home to tell his friend “how much the Lord has done for you and how He has had mercy on you.” So he went home, told how much Jesus had done for him, “and everyone marveled.”

When God has been at work in your life, when He has changed you, you can’t help but talk about it and tell others of His love and mercy. I love how Valley View folks are passionate about telling others what God has done in their lives. It seems like almost every week I meet someone’s neighbor or friend who says “they’re so excited about what’s happening here, I had to come see for myself.”

Like Rob and his passion for comic books, and the demon-possessed man whose life was radically changed by Jesus, your love for Jesus influences your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, and fellow students. I believe God is moving in our midst in powerful ways. Be in prayer for our church to stay hungry for the presence of God, to stay focused on worshiping Him, and to keep “proclaiming all Jesus has done” for each of us (Mark 5:20) all over Southwest Louisville.
