Summer Growth
Late May was always my favorite time of year growing up for one reason: school is finally out! I couldn’t wait till those long lazy summer days started, especially once I discovered Bobby Nichols golf course. Mom would drop me off and I might be there most of the day till she came back for me. We probably both enjoyed those summers! I think many parents look forward to the summer break from the school routine but also wonder “how am I going to keep my kids engaged?”
Well one way is to get your kids to Vacation Bible School. VBS is about continuing to ground your kids in the Word of God, while making it fun and memorable. Our prayer for the kids of Valley View is that they would come to know the wisdom of our memory verse for May: “Every Word of God proves true” (Proverbs 30:5).
In this age of shifting sands and half-truths, people are hungry for something to stand on. God’s Word is the truest truth one can ever encounter. God’s word gives us wisdom for life, as we are seeing in our study of the book of Proverbs. Be praying for our VBS efforts, especially for Lauren as these next few days are crunch time. Also pray for our kids, that they would come with hearts hungry to learn and grow. Lastly, pray for new kids to attend this year. Be praying for God to open the door for you to invite a child from your neighborhood to VBS. You never know how one summer can change the direction of a child’s life. VBS is one of our most powerful outreaches to the families in our community. Let’s be praying that God would bring in a new wave of children and families who are hungry for hope, truth, purpose, and open to knowing and following Jesus Christ in the South End of Louisville!
