We Are Past Quitting
We are now officially past “quitter’s day,” so you no longer need to worry about quitting on your New Year’s resolutions for 2026. According to Arnold Schwarzenegger, January 17th is considered the day when over 50% of people have already said sayonara to the new you.
It is a little discouraging, but it also reminds me of one of my favorite Bible verses, Hebrews 10:39, “But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.” We are not those of the quitter ilk, rather we “Walk by Faith” in 2026! In fact, not only do we not quit, I think we have an exciting year ahead of us as a church. Here are just a few things I’m looking forward to in the coming weeks:
- Our next Worship Night is scheduled for the evening of Sunday, February 22nd.
- Bob Russell (former pastor of Southeast Christian Church) is coming to speak at our church on Sunday, April 12th, which is the week after Easter.
- This is also the same Sunday as our annual Spring Picnic and Pie Playoff. I can’t guarantee Bob will sample your pie, but it will be a great time to connect and keep building community at our church!
- After we wrap up the series on Jonah, we launch into February with a ten week series on Knowing God and Loving God. We have a recommended book as well to supplement your study. More on that in this week’s Sermon Deleted Scenes video.
- We also have the Women’s Retreat (Feb 27-28), the WKND for students (March 13-14), Superstart for kids (Feb 20-21), and Sojourners kicking back off on March 19th (I will be speaking for that event).
We have so much ahead of us between now and mid-April to keep excitement and momentum going as a church. As I heard the news this week of how God was moving among our students, I was encouraged to keep pressing on and pursuing Christ for the sake of the generations to come. We do not shrink back, but persevere!
